This section contains posters of not only Italian and American films, but also Japanese Sci-Fi Classics, Soviet propaganda films, and Czech films of the 1960s. You can find films from more countries not shown here by using the search bar.

Czechoslovakia (5981)

For the „home-made“ Czechoslovakian posters there logically developed the biggest amount of concepts (many films are accompanied by concepts as well as by several versions of photographic posters).

USA (3038)

Most of the posters for American films originated in the 60’s. Normalization in the 70’s made the American films vanish from Czech cinemas (the released ones had to contain a strong critical approach towards American society).

United Kingdom (991)

Just like in the case of American films, the most powerful placards for British films originated in the 60’s. The series of posters with British comedian Peter Sellers (Pink Panther) and posters by Josef Vyleťal are truly remarkable.

France (1541)

The socialist censorship was tolerant of French comedies which were accompanied by many succesful posters, especially of films with Louis de Funés (Fantomas etc.).

Italy (921)

Excellent posters accompanied Italian film classic (Fellini, Antonioni, Pasolini, Visconti) especially in the 60’s and the first half of the 70’s ( The Sweet Life, Roma, 8 1/2, Amarcord, Death in Venice).

Germany (1216)

German cinematography was represented in the Czech cinemas mostly by films from its Eastern part, former GDR. Posters for German and Czech-German films from the 30’s and 40’s constitute a very interesting chapter.

Soviet Union (2369)

Soviet cinematography was strongly favoured in Czechoslovakia in the 70’s and 80’s. There exist many posters (as for the number of realized concepts it ranks the second right after posters for Czech films).

Poland (1280)

Polish cinematography had a traditional viewers background in Czechoslovakia. There developed many quality posters aspecially for films by A.Wajda and K.Zanussi (Landscape After the Battle, The Ashes etc.).

Spain (207)

In the 60’s there originated cult posters for films by Louis Bunuel (Viridiana, Tristana, Belladona). Later on it was also a convolut of posters for Carlos Saura’s films (Carmen, Blood Wedding, Dance-hall).

Japan (261)

Czechoslovakian posters for Japanese sci-fi films belong to the notable ones (Gamera vs. Giger, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, The X from Outer Space) as well as posters for A.Kurosawa’s films (Derusu Uzala,Dodesukaden)

Yugoslavia (305)

Cinematography of ex-Yugoslavian countries is represented especially by wonderful posters by Josef Vyleťal (The Flight of the Dead Bird, The Sun In The Strange Sky, Doktor Mladen etc.).

Sweden (204)

Those were mostly films by Ingmar Bergman that stirred fantasy of many Czech artists and inspired them to create their top works (The Seventh Seal, Shame, Persona,Cries and Whispers, The Silence, Smiles of a Summer Night.).

Bulgaria (206)

Also films from „friendly“ Bulgarian cinematography domesticated in the Czech cinemas. Distinct posters for Bulgarian films were created by Zdeněk Ziegler, Josef Vyleťal, Olga Poláčková-Vyleťalová.

Romania (295)

Very interesting posters by leading Czechoslovakian graphic artists accompanied films of minority Romanian cinematography, mainly in the 70’s and 80’s (Warmth, The Actor and the Savagen, The Axe, 100 lei).

Hungary (494)

Interesting posters for Hungarian films were created by V.V.Paleček; Josef Vyleťal (The Neverending Renewal); Jan Kratochvíl (Sparkling Winds).
